Post-natal depression is quite a common condition and is not something to be ashamed of.
During your pregnancy, everything may have been fine. All of your friends are congratulating you on the up and coming event of having a baby, and, especially if this is your first child, you have no idea what will eventuate.
Some new mothers come in to see me feeling flat, disinterested in life, depressed, worn out and have a feeling of not connecting with their child. There may be bouts of crying and feelings of guilt at not being able to cope.
There can be many reasons for these feelings. Lack of sleep, no family support, a feeling of suddenly being isolated and at home all day with no one to talk to and no time for yourself. It is a good idea to try and join a new mother’s group as you will discover that you are not alone with a lot of these problems.
There are often strong hormonal imbalances affecting you as well after the birth of your baby and these can cause a lot of your feelings to fluctuate.
A new baby is a full time job. You may also have problems with breastfeeding, mastitis or your baby may suffer from colic and cry or scream endlessly. Often you have tried the conventional treatments for your baby’s colic or your mastitis and nothing is working. These are conditions that can be treated as well with the correct Homoeopathic medicines.
